HOW TO PLAY: To participate in the Outside Magazine "Everest Base Camp" Game (herein "Game"), purchase a September 2006 newsstand copy of Outside Magazine and look for the official game piece within the issue. The game piece will contain an alpha-numeric code (herein "Game Code"). An Official Game Piece (herein "game piece") may be obtained without purchase, with an equal chance of winning, by sending a hand-printed, self-addressed, stamped envelope to Outside Magazine "Everest Base Camp" Game Piece, PO Box 8516, Prospect Heights, IL 60070. VT residents may omit return postage. Limit one game piece per request, one request per postmarked outer mailing envelope. Requests for free game piece will be honored while supplies last. Requests must be postmarked by 9/26/06 and received by 10/03/06. Requests may not be computer-generated, photocopied or otherwise mechanically reproduced. To see if you have a winning Official Game Piece, go to www.outsideinfo.com beginning 12:00:01 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) 8/08/06 through 11:59:59 p.m. (ET) 10/17/06 ("the Promotion Period"). If the Game Code printed on your game piece identically matches the Game Code displayed on the website in the same sequence, you are a potential winner, subject to verification in accordance with these Official Rules.

To claim your prize, hand-print your name, date of birth, address, city, state, and zip code on a 3" X 5" piece of paper, sign your name across the original game piece and mail both to: Outside Magazine Everest Base Camp Prize Claim, 1851 Elmdale Avenue, Glenview, IL 60026. It is recommended that potential winning game pieces be sent by Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested and that you retain a photocopy of the game piece for your records. You are not a winner until your game piece has been timely received and verified in accordance with these Official Rules. Proof of mailing does not constitute proof of delivery; proof of delivery does not constitute proof of a winning submission. No responsibility is assumed by Sponsor, and its agencies, for lost, late, delayed, postage due, misdirected or illegible mail or damaged, torn or separated mail due to improper packaging of mail or incomplete or improper processing of mail. Mail received without a verifiable and legible return address may not be accepted at Sponsor's sole discretion. The submission of a prize claim is solely the responsibility of the participant who assumes all risk of loss, damage, destruction, delay and misdirection of the prize claim. Prize claims must be received by 12/15/06. Before the prize can be awarded, the winning submission must be verified by Promotion Activators, Inc., an independent judging organization whose decisions shall be final in all matters relating to the Game. An entrant is not a winner of any prize, even if the Game's website should so indicate, unless and until entrant's eligibility and the potential winning game piece has been verified, entrant has complied with the terms of these Official Rules and entrant has been notified that verification is complete. Anti-fraud detection devices may be used to verify winners. Game pieces and/or Game Codes will be void if they fail to pass anti-fraud detection measures, or if found to be photocopied, reproduced, altered, forged, defaced, tampered with, mutilated, torn, stolen, un-issued, unauthorized, traded, bartered, sold, illegitimately obtained or illegible in any way, or if disassembled, or if they fail to contain authorized special markings and/or security codes, or if defective or if they contain printing or other mechanical errors or are printed or produced in error. Liability for game pieces containing printing or other errors is limited to replacement with another game piece while supplies last. ANY PERSON ATTEMPTING TO FORGE GAME PIECES/GAME CODES, DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE, OR TO DEFRAUD SPONSOR IN ANY WAY IN CONNECTION WITH THIS GAME MAY BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW. If, due to a printing or other error, more than one (1) prize is claimed, the intended prize will be awarded in a random drawing from among all non-suspect prize claims received. In no event will Sponsor be liable for awarding more than one (1) prize. Prize claims if any, become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. Non-winning submissions will not be acknowledged or returned. Prize will be awarded provided it is claimed in accordance with these Official Rules. If a prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, prize will be forfeited. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for computer, internet or program malfunctions or for other errors, failures, or delays in network connections that are human or technical in nature, or for inaccurate capture of information or for lost, late, unintelligible, postage-due, damaged, illegible, incomplete or misdirected mail, requests or entries.

PRIZE & ODDS: One (1) Prize: REI Adventures Everest Classic Trek for (1) person. Prize includes round-trip coach air transportation from the major commercial airport nearest the winner's home to Kathmandu, Nepal, 4 nights standard hotel accommodations (single room, double occupancy) in Kathmandu (and layover city, if necessary), air transportation from Kathmandu to Lukla, breakfast, lunch, and dinner during treks (meals not provided in Kathmandu), Sherpa guides and porters, tents, sleeping pads, baggage portage, National Park fees, and airport transfers. Winner must be available to travel on dates designated by Sponsor or prize is forfeited. The trip will take approximately 22 days, including travel to/from the United States. Approximate retail value: $6,500.00, depending upon winner's point of travel origin. Odds of winning the Prize: 1 in 220,000. All other expenses not specifically mentioned herein are solely the responsibility of the prize winner, including gratuities to camp staff, any cost in obtaining visa, passport, medical immunizations, travel insurance, emergency evacuation flights (if necessary), equipment (clothing, backpacks, sleeping bags, etc.), incidentals, alcohol. If any required documents are not returned within the required number of days, or if any mail is returned to Sponsor as undeliverable without a forwarding address, then prize may be forfeited. SECOND CHANCE DRAWING: If the Prize is not claimed by 12/15/06, it will be awarded in a second chance random drawing from among all eligible second chance entries received. Second chance drawing to be conducted on or about 12/29/06 by an independent judging organization whose decisions are final. There are two ways to enter the second chance drawing: 1) On the internet. Go to www.outsideinfo.com and compare the number on your game piece with the winning number shown. If you don't have the winning number, complete the adjacent Second Chance form and click on "Enter Sweepstakes," Limit: one online entry per e-mail address. Internet entries must be submitted by 11:59PM (ET) 12/15/06 .OR , 2) By Mail. Hand print your name, complete street address, daytime phone number and date of birth on a plain piece of 3" x 5" paper and mail it to Outside Magazine "Everest Base Camp" Second Chance Drawing, P.O. Box 8514, Prospect Heights, IL 60070. Enter by mail as often as you like, but each entry must be mailed separately in a hand-addressed, stamped outer envelope. No photocopied, facsimile, mechanically reproduced, illegible or incomplete entries accepted. The Sponsor assumes no responsibility for lost, late, mutilated, misdirected, illegible, incomplete, misdirected or postage due mail-in entries. All entries must be postmarked no later than 12/15/06 and received no later than 12/22/06 to be eligible for the drawing. If conducted, odds of winning the second chance sweepstakes depend upon the number eligible entries received. Employees of Sponsor, Promotion Activators, Inc., their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiary companies, distributors, sales representatives, retailers, advertising, sales promotion and judging agencies and all other service agencies involved with the Promotion and members of the immediate families (parent, child, sibling and spouse) or households of any of the above are not eligible. Void outside the 50 United States and D.C. and where prohibited. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS: By participating in the Game, participant agrees to release, hold harmless and indemnify Sponsor, Promotion Activators, Inc., their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiary companies, distributors, sales representatives, retailers, advertising, sales promotion and judging agencies and the employees, directors, officers and agents of each ("Promotional Parties") from and against any and all liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, harm, damage (including but not limited to property damage, personal injury and/or death), claims, actions, costs and expenses (including without limitation, all attorneys' fees and court costs) arising directly or indirectly from or in connection with his/her acceptance, possession of use/misuse of any Prize awarded herein, any services provided by parties other than Sponsor in connection with the prize awarded, or participation in any prize-related activity and any travel related thereto (including without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses or damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light). Participant further acknowledges that the above parties are in no manner responsible or liable for, any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any prize, including but not limited to its quality, mechanical condition or fitness for a particular purpose. Acceptance of prize will further constitute and signify the winner's agreement and consent that Sponsor and/or Sponsor's assignee may use the winner's name, likeness and/or prize and biographical information worldwide for promotion purposes without limitation and without further compensation, except where prohibited. Winner is solely responsible for any local, state, or federal taxes on prize. No substitutions, cash reimbursement or transfer of the prize permitted, except Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value should the advertised prize become unavailable. Sponsor reserves the right to take such action as it deems necessary to enforce these Official Rules and ensure the fair operation of the Game, including without limitation, barring and disqualifying participants who do not comply with these Official Rules. If, for any reason, the Game is not capable of running as planned by any cause which, in the sole opinion of the Sponsor, corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Game, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Game and determine the winner from entries received prior to action taken, or as otherwise deemed fair and equitable by Sponsor. By entering, participants agree that all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, participant's rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of the Sponsor in connection with the Game, will be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of State of Illinois, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules. By entering, participants consent to the jurisdiction and venue of the federal, state and local courts located in Chicago, Illinois.

LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY Neither Sponsor nor its agencies are responsible for lost, late, stolen, illegible, misdirected, or non-delivered entries or e-mail; or for lost, interrupted or unavailable satellite, network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website or other connections availability, accessibility or traffic congestion, or miscommunications, or failed computer, network, telephone, satellite, or cable hardware, software or lines, or technical failure, or jumbled, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected transmissions, or computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties, or other errors of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic or network, or the incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry or other information or the failure to capture, or loss of, any such information. Neither Sponsor nor its agencies are responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this Game and assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or tampering with or hacking of Website. Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds may be tampering with the entry process or operation of the Game or website, may be acting in violation of the terms of the Website or may be acting in a non-sportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to threaten, abuse or harass any other person.
