Arkansas is a natural for an adventure vacation. With two magnificent mountain ranges, three national forests, 600,000 acres of lakes and 9,000 miles of streams and rivers, few states in mid-America can compare.

There are over 200 public-owned campgrounds in the state, offering nearly 9,800 individual family campsites. Most are oriented to water sports activities and are open, park like areas with fresh water, central restrooms, and boat launching ramps.

National Forest campgrounds are usually more rustic and emphasize privacy with individual campsites divided by greenbelts. They are developed around geographic attractions, and care has been taken to see that campsites blend into surrounding terrain.

Arkansas state parks are scattered throughout the state and offer a complete range of scenic attractions. Most have restaurants or snack bars and hiking trails. Some have swimming pools, tennis courts, pavilions, playgrounds and boat ramps.

With over 9,000 miles of breathtakingly beautiful streams, there are a wide variety of paddling opportunities that will suit anyone from a beginning canoeist to the most experienced kayaker.

Arkansas has over 250 hiking trails totaling over 1,500 miles, perfect for a day in the outdoors. Hiking can be enjoyed any time of the year.

Dozens of backpacking trails provide serenity and freedom from congestion. Horseback paths are available, as are challenging mountain bike trails. To learn more, call 1-800-NATURAL or visit www.arkansas.com.
